Via the intern program, the program leader can recruit a nearby college student to intern for a semester. A JWM staff member can assist in this contact if needed. The benefits to this are great and numerous:
- Generations are linked as the intern and older participants work together. The intern becomes the eyes for someone with failing eyesight, the hands for someone with arthritis, the typist for those without computers, and the organizer for someone who has trouble capturing a story on paper.
- The younger generation learns life values and meaning from the older adults.
- The workshop leader's workload is lightened as the intern types for and assists the participants.
- The intern gains valuable real-life experience and comes to value an older generation.
